Understanding the Professional Learning Needs of Emerging Ocean Leaders

Session ID#: 36387

Session Description:
As a core component of its mission, the Center for Ocean Solutions strives to enhance leadership skills in existing ocean leaders as well as establish strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills in our new generation of ocean professionals. Throughout our work we encourage emerging leaders to think deeply about their professional learning needs to better prepare them for the demands of environmental leadership - conservation career spaces that often span research disciplines, resource management, decision making, policy, and public outreach.

During this town hall we invite those interested in environmental leadership development and transdiciplinary marine education to join us for food and fun to meet other like-minded ocean professionals and discuss the challenges and opportunities encountered as an emerging ocean leader, as well as types of professional learning experiences from both inside and outside of academia that could help minimize these challenges and maximize opportunities. Early career conference attendees are especially encouraged to attend, including students, faculty, and other multidisciplinary ocean professionals from a variety of backgrounds and interests.
