NOAA Ocean Sciences: Saving Lives, Protecting the Nation, and Promoting a Sustainable National Economy

NOAA’s world class observing and prediction systems, scientists, and practitioners are advancing our understanding of the world’s oceans to directly benefit the nation. Recent NOAA initiatives, developments, and discoveries will be presented, with emphasis placed on those that directly prevented loss of life during the 2017 hurricane season, support the new National Security Strategy, and underpin the country’s growing economy. Building on these recent accomplishments, NOAA will continue to advance our capabilities to improve forecasts; save lives, protect property and natural resources, and promote national security and economic growth.
