DEEP SEARCH: Exploration for deep-water communities in advance of offshore oil leasing in the southeast US
Session ID#: 41398
Session Description:
This workshop is for the researchers affiliated with the US BOEM, NOAA OER, and USGS funded DEEP SEARCH project and their colleagues. This project will explore the waters off of the Southeast US coast in advance of potential offshore drilling operations. This area encompasses a variety of different habitat types, including submarine canyons, cold-water coral mounds and gardens, methane seeps, and soft sediments. The overarching goal for the project is to augment the ability to predict the location of seafloor communities that are potentially sensitive to natural and anthropogenic disturbances. Through this workshop, we seek to plan a course for research in the region and provide information about the project to the rest of the community.
