ED13F:
Research-Based Advances in Undergraduate Hydrology Education Posters

Session ID#: 8311

Session Description:
Over the last decades, the hydrologic community strived to formulate a research agenda for achieving real advances in the theory and practices of Hydrologic Sciences. Key elements of this agenda include new observational settings, hydrologic information systems, and modeling tools. Such advances need parallel reforms in hydrologic education, especially at the undergraduate level. The traditional approach to hydrologic education focuses on unit processes with heavy use of idealized examples. The spatio-temporal dynamics of hydrologic processes and their linkage to climatic connections are rarely introduced. This session seeks contributions from the hydrologic community that utilizes recent advances in hydrology research to develop student-centered, context-rich, active learning experiences in undergraduate hydrology education. Submissions with insight into the assessment of new educational experiences, as well as implementation challenges imposed by curricular and programmatic constraints are especially encouraged.
