Session Description:
Technologies for measuring and understanding the Earth are evolving rapidly, but despite their importance in academic research and industry, relatively few undergraduate courses include these methods. High-resolution topographic and bathymetric models generated by structure from motion (SfM) photogrammetry, airborne and terrestrial lidar, and sonar methods can be used for applications ranging from geohazard analysis to geomorphic change and environmental assessment. The global positioning and global navigation satellite systems (GPS and GNSS) are fundamental to precise positioning and provide velocities that can be used in hazard monitoring, groundwater subsidence, engineering, and more. This session invites presentations that illustrate ways field geodetic methods are being used in undergraduate courses. We hope to highlight new initiatives and provide a forum for discussing successes and challenges.
