ED33D:
Creating Authentic STEM Experiences in Schools to Meet the Challenges Facing Our Planet Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 46654

Session Description:
Students are bombarded with information, often contradictory, from a variety of sources relating to the global challenges facing humanity.  Educators create curriculum materials and authentic learning experiences to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make informed action to meet these challenges.

The challenges are complex and multi-layered. STEM-related fields of learning are increasingly taught in an integrated manner, linking the fundamental knowledge and tools of the STEM fields in innovative ways to create fresh perspectives and innovative solutions. Educators are aware of others dimensions of learning to render these interdisciplinary approaches effective. Non-STEM fields empower effective STEM education. Experiential approaches to learning are critical for authentic learning. The complexity of these programs often leads to collaboration outside the school environment.

This session is for educators to present in and out of classroom curriculum, collaborative partnerships, student-led research projects, makerspace education, and programs that are interdisciplinary in design.
