Evaporation, Gas, and Heat Exchange over Inland Waters Under Climate and Anthropogenic Changes: New Insights from Direct Measurements and Modeling Posters

Session Description:
Inland waters – such as lakes, reservoirs, wetlands, rivers, and streams – have been suggested to act as important components of energy exchange and water and gas cycles in the climate system. However, it remains challenging to quantify these exchanges over water surface, which act as the interface between the overlying atmospheric boundary layer and the underlying water body. The variety of water surface qualities (e.g. salinity) and water body dynamics highly influence evaporation and energy and gas exchange, and part of these variations are related to anthropogenic processes and climate change. This session solicits contributions that advance our understanding of physical, biological and limnological processes that influence evaporation, energy and gas exchange over water surfaces, using novel approaches such as overwater eddy covariance, evaporation models, and incorporation of aquatic ecosystems in earth system models.
