Resilient Agroecosystems I

Session Description:
Climate shocks and land use changes threaten the structure, functioning and productivity of agroecosystems globally. While exogenous biophysical disturbances drive adaptive readjustments or threshold responses within these coupled human-environment systems, they occur simultaneously with socio-economic pressures, and within an institutional context. Future agricultural sustainability and food/fiber security depends upon maintaining resilience in diverse agroecosystems, and consideration of stressors operating at multiple scales (local, regional, global). This session invites presentations that further our understanding of (i) climate change impacts on the biophysical and biogeochemical functioning of agroecosystems; (ii) interactions between ecological, socioeconomic and institutional system components that may increase or impair resilience, and/or (iii) potential adaptation and mitigation opportunities for enhancing ecological, social and economic resilience within agroecosystems.
