ED34C:
Undergraduate Marine Science Research: Producing Quality Science Through Independent and Course-Based Research Activities Throughout the Academic Year I Posters

Session ID#: 85411

Session Description:
Undergraduate research has been highlighted as an important developmental tool for students considering a career in marine science research. To date, attention has focused on primarily summer research opportunities and programs (e.g. REUs) which most often provide a full-time, immersive, undergraduate research experience. However, at many  institutions significant undergraduate marine science research takes place throughout the academic year. This research takes many forms, from that of a more traditional research group where students complete independent research, to integrative classroom research activities woven throughout an educational program. Session participants will discuss academic-year undergraduate research occurring at their institutions, and the methods they have employed and refined to produce quality marine science research while engaging and developing undergraduate student researchers.
