A14C:
Aerosol Influence on Ice-Containing Clouds Through Various Modes of Ice Nucleation II
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 58061
Session Description:
Initiation of primary ice particles through various modes of ice nucleation and precipitation from ice containing clouds has been poorly understood. The specific aerosol properties of atmospheric ice-nucleating particles that govern the heterogeneous nucleation of ice are limited, and therefore because of lack of appropriate theoretical description, ice particle formation is very difficult to represent adequately in cloud models.
This important problem has been investigated through combination of multiple approaches, and this session aims to invite contributors to discuss this growing body of literature. Topics include laboratory studies of ice nucleation of various aerosols, new formulations and parameterization developments of ice formation, and sensitivity analysis of these parameterizations using modeling and observations techniques. Studies that explore molecular dynamic simulations in combination with these approaches are also welcome.
