Building Community Resilience Through Education and Public Engagement: Linking Theory to Practice II

Session Description:
Public engagement and K-12 education are important tools for increasing community resilience to the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events. However, significant challenges remain with respect to building knowledge systems to inform decision-making, in light of uncertainties associated with future climate projections, impacts and risks. Information and theoretical frameworks ranging from climate science to risk communication and decision-making are readily available to help guide engagement and education projects. This session highlights relevant projects anchored in this theory, illustrating best practices through case studies, project assessments, and realized outcomes. Collectively, these projects provide tested models for turning knowledge into action in order to build community resilience.
