ED14B:
Engaging Undergraduates in Learning about the Earth, Oceans, and Atmospheric Sciences through NSF Educational Funding Programs I

Session ID#: 8615

Session Description:
NSF programs such as CCLI, TUES, and IUSE support projects that changed the way undergraduates learn about the earth, ocean and atmospheric sciences. These programs have also provided faculty development opportunities and helped build communities of users. This session seeks to highlight the accomplishments and impacts of past and current NSF-funded efforts that seek to improve the quality of undergraduate education in the geosciences. Projects that have focused on recruiting geoscience majors, increasing retention, broadening participation in the geosciences, and identifying skills for preparing students for the workforce and graduate study are especially encouraged to share their successful strategies and models. The session also seeks to support and continue discussions initiated during the "Summit on the Future of Geoscience Education" (http://www.jsg.utexas.edu/events/future-of-geoscience-undergraduate-education/) about educational needs in our community.
Primary Convener:  Jill Singer, SUNY-Buffalo State, Earth Sciences, Buffalo, NY, United States
